The latest Madden game was revealed last week, and while it is an update to one of the best sports games available, PC fans were disappointed to learn that the Madden NFL 22 PC version will be last-gen and will lack the next-gen features that EA is touting for the Madden NFL 5 and Madden NFL X versions of the game. EA has now explained that the reason for this is that the company is concentrating on next-generation consoles with this release.
When EA announced Madden NFL 22 Coins on Thursday, they listed a number of next-gen features that would be included in the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game that would not be included in the previous-gen PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game. Most of these features are part of the new ‘dynamic gameday’ feature that is being introduced by the publisher to make the latest Madden more exciting and realistic. Next-generation stats, more refined AI, stadium atmosphere, and improved movement are among the features being introduced.
The PC version, unfortunately, will be the same as the PS4/Xbox One version, rather than the next-generation version. Sports Gamers Online reached out to EA for an explanation and received a response, though it is not one that will satisfy dissatisfied PC fans – who have only recently begun receiving the Madden games on their platforms again this year.
In the words of an EA Sports representative, "it's something that is being looked into for the future."“We are still in the early stages of the transition to next-gen, and the team is currently focused on delivering the best possible experience on new consoles before considering whether or not to upgrade other platforms.”
While the explanation provides a ray of hope that a patch for Madden NFL 22 Coins on PC will be released after the game's release on August 20th, in this case "the future" could equally well refer to the game's successor, Madden 23, in the following year. It's a disappointment, especially considering that EA had been making significant strides toward making Madden on PC on par with Madden on consoles – Madden 21 for example, released on Steam and Origin on the same day as the console versions, which was a first for the series – before this announcement. We hope that the next-generation Madden game will not be released in a year for PC Madden fans to enjoy.
